📸 On July 19, 1826, the world’s first photograph was created.

French inventor Joseph Nicéphore Niépce became the first person to permanently capture an image using light. He used a camera obscura and a metal plate coated with a thin layer of bitumen, a material that hardens when exposed to sunlight.

Niépce exposed the plate for eight hours, photographing the view from the window of his workshop. The image was far from sharp, but it became the first photograph in history in which the outlines of real-world objects could be distinguished.

The photograph, titled “View from the Window at Le Gras,” measured 8 × 6 inches. Because of the eight-hour exposure, the sun illuminated both sides of the buildings visible from Niépce’s window.

🏨 Russians are calling for a hotel to be shut down after a tourist was allegedly assaulted for speaking Russian. The hotel says its staff were not involved in the incident.

According to SHOT, the Agarani Estate hotel’s rating dropped to 2.4 out of 5 within just a few hours. Hundreds of new reviews accuse the hotel of poor service and inadequate security. Some users have even posted photos of the local man who allegedly attacked a woman for speaking Russian inside her hotel room.

Many reviewers are calling for the hotel to be closed, arguing that it failed to provide a safe environment. Among the comments are:

“It’s not safe here. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.”

“I hope this hotel gets shut down.”

“The staff might beat you up. Never stay here.”

The hotel maintains that its employees had no involvement in the alleged assault. However, it has not explained why it reportedly blocked communication with the injured tourist, Yulia. Notably, some of the negative reviews have also been left by users in Georgia.

Before the incident, the hotel reportedly had a rating close to 5 stars, with mostly positive reviews.

🇬🇪 A Georgian man hostile toward Russians allegedly assaulted a Ukrainian woman living in Russia after hearing people speaking Russian in a hotel room in Tbilisi.

According to the account, Polina, a Ukrainian woman who moved to Russia years ago, organized a reunion with Ukrainian friends in Georgia, where they were staying at a hotel.

The woman says they were spending the evening quietly in their room when an angry Georgian man began forcing his way inside after hearing them speaking Russian.

According to her, the man swore in English and, when told, “You’re in our room!”, replied: “And you’re in my country!”

When Polina tried to push him out of the room, the man allegedly punched her, knocking her to the floor with a single blow before fleeing.

One of the women is currently at a police station, while the injured woman has been hospitalized.

Russia has repeatedly discussed raising the upper age limit for what is considered “youth.” It is currently set at 35 years old. However, according to data cited by the World Health Organization (WHO), youth extends until 45, said Russia’s Chief Geriatric Specialist at the Ministry of Health, Olga Tkacheva.

The corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences said that, under the WHO’s official age classification, middle age begins at 45 and lasts until 59, while people aged 18 to 44 are classified as young.

“Officially, according to the WHO classification, young age ends at 45,” Olga Tkacheva said.
