The capital has ground to a halt amid 9-point traffic congestion due to heavy snowfall. Sheremetyevo Airport is closed until noon, and people are being forced to crowd into long lines for transport. ❄️
Moscow is feeling the effects of the strongest overnight snowstorms. Drivers have been hit hardest, stuck in 9-point gridlock, with major jams reported on the Varshavskoye and Kievskoye highways, as well as the MKAD. Sheremetyevo Airport has also been shut until midday because of adverse weather conditions, the airport’s press service said.
Residents of Moscow Region housing complexes are also facing difficulties, unable to leave by public transport. In many areas streets have not been cleared, and queues at bus stops stretch for dozens of meters. 🚏 Taxi fares have surged sharply due to the weather.
Earlier, meteorologists warned that up to 47 cm of snow could fall by the evening of January 29, accompanied by gale-force winds. 🌬️
