🔹Is It Permissible for a Woman to Offer Herself in Marriage to a Righteous Man? Shaykh Sulaymān al-Ruḥaylī (حفظه الله) said: “Another matter relating to the selection of a spouse is that there is no harm in a woman offering herself in marriage to a righteous man whom she considers to be good for her. There is no harm or shame in doing so. Sahl ibn Saʿd رضي الله عنه narrated: “A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: ‘I have come to offer myself to you (in marriage).’ She then stood for a long time, and he looked at her and examined her. When she had stood for a lengthy period, a man said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, marry her to me if you have no need of her.’ He ﷺ said: ‘Do you have anything to give her as a dowry?’” Reported by al-Bukhārī. The point of evidence here is that the woman offered herself in marriage to the Prophet ﷺ, seeking to be among the wives of a righteous man. 💎 How Can a Wife Protect Her Husband from Desiring Other Women? Shaykh Sulaymān al-Ruḥaylī (حفظه الله) said: Jābir reported that he heard the Prophet ﷺ say: “If one of you sees a woman and she impresses him and captures his heart, then let him go to his wife and have intercourse with her, for that will repel what he feels within himself.” Reported by Muslim. Meaning: If a man looks at a woman and sees her walking or the like, and she impresses him or captures his heart, then this is a black spot that settles in the heart, which a person must treat. One of the greatest remedies for this is for him to return home, sit with his wife and have intercourse with her, for this removes what has settled in his heart. This is a remedy that many people have neglected. Sadly, some married men fall into this very matter: their hearts become attached to a particular woman. This is especially the case in these strange times, in which desires have erupted in an astonishing manner and the means of temptation have become extraordinarily widespread. Yet they do not treat this matter with the Prophetic remedy. Consequently, this attachment grows in the heart until the man begins to turn away from his wife and becomes attached to another woman. Therefore, this must be understood: among the means by which a man safeguards his chastity and protects himself from the harm of desire is to have intercourse with his wife, for this removes what may have settled in his heart.
