detatched from agents and the internet entirely, and when you need entertainment, use those. you can't just freely configure the Switch 2, it's just.. a Switch. And that's a good thing!
* Have fun! Don't just use your agent to fix things, whenever you think of something that might simply be interesting to do/have, ask about it! If you're really bullish on AI, I'd even suggest asking a standard chatbot like Gemini's or ChatGPT what they think, and then applying that after.

With all of this in mind, Linux in 2026 is pretty much perfect. I don't think I'll ever really need to use Windows outside of a few niche containerized things. I'M SO HAPPY!!!!

Linux in 2026 is incredible.

For years, I've been what one might call a HATER. I was so opposed to Linux I wouldn't touch that shit with a ten foot pole. But something snapped in me recently.

I have a love hate relationship with Windows.. I think Win11 has been MASSIVELY improving as of late, and right now the most up to date builds have so much in common with Linux you'd think they're directly copying from popular distros (they probably are). It's great!

But even still... stuff breaks, randomly. Want to fix it? TOO BAD, BUDDY, this shit is CLOSED SOURCE. The way your daily OS works is a mystery to everyone, and if you want to fix it, you better hope either Microsoft does that soon (they won't) or there happens to be some incredibly niche workaround for it (there probably isn't.) So with all of that said, what am I even supposed to do when I need some poweruser features that AREN'T there, or when there's some awful, unusable bug that drives my autistic ass INSANE!!! There's nothing, really.

So I installed Linux. Or at least, I tried. I attempted to install Fedora, and my god, it was a nightmare. Nothing seemed to work out of the box, the video drivers would straight up crash my PC, and I was genuinely determined that Nvidia is the actual devil. I gave up, and went back to Windows.

For my brief return to Windows, I started integrating some poweruser workflows, working up to eventually installing everything in package managers, using way more keyboard shortcuts, etc. I was having a lot of fun optimizing the shit out of my usage, but it didn't feel right. Why am I using an OS that works against me? Terrified, but still fed up, I tried again. I installed Kubuntu, because I figured that Most popular distro + Most popular DE is how I get the most reliable experience. And... it worked GREAT! Mostly. Some weird nvidia hangups still ocassionally show up, but overall it was a really stable experience. And then it hit me.

I have been using Antigravity for agentic coding. I've recently super hardcore Googled my life (I know I know, I've ultimately made the call I value optimizing workflows and being happy over my privacy. If it ends up getting me in trouble, you can say 'I told you so")

Anyways, I realized.. why can't I just use Antigravity to set up my PC for me. And OH. MY. GOD.

Any time there's a configuration I need done FAST, I simply ask Gemini, and it's done just like that. No more hassle trying to figure out which way is the Best for my distro, no more struggling with weird install methods that aren't what I usually do, I just.. ask the robot. And it can do so much more! Configure apps to resemble my favorite things about Windows, make scripts to fix things and automate everything.. every task becomes done through specific and detailed human language, rather than trying to find niche GUI options on my PC.

However, I set some ground rules, and if you use agentic workflows in your attempt to switch to Linux/enjoy Linux more, I would follow these too.

* Keep a lot of backups of your entire install, and when you do something unsupervised, make sure to unplug that drive that contains those backups. Your agent can't break something it doesn't know exists.
* Make sure to ask for a way to undo any major changes it makes in case you really dislike them.
* Read its explanations! The end goal here is not just to be lazy and never have to do anything yourself (Although if you hate computers and just want to get by and play games and such, that works too).. but overall, try using AI as both an **assistive tool** and a **learning tool**. If you do that, you'll reach a positive feedback loop where you're making your linux setup as pitch FUCKING perfect as possible, all while learning new things about your PC and OS that you can memorize and apply on your own!
* Take breaks. It can be addicting to try and make everything flawless, but you shouldn't rely on AI so much that optimization takes over your life. This sounds stupid, but if you're worried you're too busy perfecting everything always, have tech/Gaming products that are

NowCaption 1.2.0: free, offline live captions for Linux, now running my own speech model

A little while ago I shared NowCaption here, and a lot of your feedback went straight into the app. 1.2.0 is out, with a short video of it running (the caption box is NowCaption's real, unedited output).

**Video:** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PL9c9ltI-yI

**GitHub:** https://github.com/Techlm77/NowCaption

It captions anything your PC plays, or your microphone, offline on the CPU: no internet, no GPU, no account. I built it with deaf and hard-of-hearing Linux users in mind, especially gamers.

New in 1.2.0 is my own speech model, with about 23% fewer word errors than before. Since my first post there's also an AppImage, text colours, a transcript, docking and word effects. Thanks to everyone who suggested them.

Benchmarks against Vosk, Whisper, Moonshine and others are on GitHub. I'll be in the comments, and ideas are very welcome.
