#science27 A UCLA-developed hybrid optical–electronic technique detects deepfakes by analysing facial patterns in selected video frames. An electronic computer selects 12 frames and feeds extracted information into a Spatial Light Modulator (SLM), which encodes it into light patterns. Optical computation generates signals measured by sensors, whose brightness differences help classify videos. It achieved 99.86% accuracy for manipulated videos and 95.72% for genuine videos, demonstrating potential applications in cybersecurity and misinformation detection. Source: The Hindu
