The mid-air kiss scene between Clark Kent (Superman) and Lois Lane in James Gunn's Superman film was censored in India.
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) deemed the 33-second kiss scene "overly sensual" for the U/A 13+ rating, which allows children over 13 to watch with parental guidance. As a result, the scene was significantly trimmed, along with another kissing scene in Lois Lane's apartment, totaling approximately 41 seconds of cuts in the Indian theatrical release.
This decision sparked backlash from fans and critics who criticized the CBFC for inconsistent censorship standards, noting that violent or misogynistic content in other films often passes without similar cuts.
