Google has figured out how to turn billions of smartphones into a network of seismic sensors — all thanks to the regular accelerometer found in every device. Phones pick up on distinctive vibrations, the system cross-checks data from a bunch of gadgets in the region — and if an earthquake seems to be brewing, users get an emergency alert right on their screen. No special equipment needed, just what's already sitting in your pocket. ✔️ @interesting
