For a few months now, dopamine apps have been taking South Korea by storm. 🤔 These apps enable users to get “dopamine hits” from online shopping and adding items to their cart, all without having to spend a single cent.
On the surface, these apps might seem like a good fix to the rising trend of online shopping addictions as these apps play into the dopamine boosts and captivating algorithms that drive online consumer purchasing habits in today’s digital world. 🥳
However, the necessity of these apps also reveals a more troubling societal trend: the widespread lack of impulse control and addiction.
➡️ While these apps indeed address the surface-level causes of online shopping addiction (dopamine hits) and circumvents the corporations’ algorithmic hyper-optimisation that fuels consumer spending, they fail to acknowledge its root cause:
increasing social isolation that causes people to fill the void that once held meaningful social connections with superficial, consumeristic shopping addictions. 😢
In this regard, how sustainable can these apps actually be in staving off online shopping addictions? 🤔
Indeed, it reduces the strain on individuals’ wallets in the short term, but the concern is that when the emotional impacts of isolation remain unaddressed, online shopping addiction simply morphs into another potentially more damaging habit. 😢
Amidst an increasingly polarising and isolating world, perhaps the solution is not a fake shopping app aimed at satisfying the growing void in consumers’ hearts,
but events that can build the communities we yearn for so deeply. ☺️

Part 2 LET’S GOOO 🙌💕
3️⃣High-Impact Verbs & Adjectives for Analytical Depth
To elevate the structural flow of your paragraphs, use dynamic verbs and descriptive adjectives that reflect high-level critical thinking 🤔
• Augment (Verb)
Meaning: To make something greater by adding to it; to increase or enhance.
Context: Use when arguing that technology should assist humans rather than replace them.
- Example: “AI should be designed to augment human capabilities rather than completely supplant them.”
• Delineate (Verb)
Meaning: To describe, outline, or portray something precisely.
Context: Essential when discussing rules, policies, or moral boundaries in technology.
- Example: “Ethics committees must clearly delineate the boundaries between permissible software assistance and outright plagiarism.”
• Opacity (Noun)
Meaning: The quality of being difficult to understand, see through, or analyze; lack of transparency.
Context: Perfect for discussing the “black box” problem where even creators do not fully understand how an AI reaches a conclusion.
- Example: “The fundamental danger of complex deep-learning networks lies in their opacity, making it difficult to hold automated systems accountable.”
• Precipitate (Verb)
Meaning: To cause an event or situation (typically a negative one) to happen suddenly or prematurely.
Context: Useful for describing sudden technological crises or societal shifts.
Example: “An unchecked reliance on automated news filters could precipitate a breakdown in public trust.”
• Infallible (Adjective)
Meaning: Incapable of making mistakes or being wrong.
Context: Use when warning against blind trust in automated systems or computer calculations.
- Example: “Society must abandon the dangerous illusion that computer systems are inherently infallible.”
4. 🔣Sample Paragraph 🔣
Here’s an example of how all the above terms can be woven together seamlessly in a standard O-Level argumentative paragraph responding to the question: “Technology brings more harm than good to modern society. Do you agree?”👍
➡️➡️
While proponents argue that artificial intelligence streamlines industrial efficiency, an uncritical adoption of this technology introduces severe societal vulnerabilities. One may think that the most pressing concern is the apocalyptic threat of sentient machines, but it is actually the quiet pervasiveness of algorithmic bias.
Furthermore, as automation displacement threatens traditional livelihoods, the financial benefits of these advancements remain concentrated among tech conglomerates. Rather than viewing technology as an infallible panacea, governments must delineate strict regulatory boundaries to ensure that automated systems augment human labour rather than exploit it 💜
