On-chain, the attacker cluster held about $5.7B to $5.9B across 65 tokens: 🔹 Bitcoin: about 17,985 $BTC (about $1.45B) 🔹 $USDT: about $1.66B 🔹 $USDC: about $767M 🔹 $ETH: about 195K ETH 🔹 Also WBETH, XAUT, UNI, LINK, AAVE, ARB and more Chains hit: Ethereum, Bitcoin, Tron, Arbitrum, Optimism, Avalanche The $BNB balance on Binance was left untouched. WHO FROZE WHAT: ▶️ Tether: 1.567B+ USDT ▶️ Circle: 800M+ USDC ▶️ Ripple: $200M ▶️ Arbitrum Security Council: $30.5M ▶️ World Liberty (USD1): $27M Binance’s verified frozen total is about $3B, and it is still rising. The unrecovered gap is about $3.3B. HOW IT HAPPENED: ▪️ Binance’s lead: a compromised DevOps engineer’s laptop, not a leaked wallet private key ▪️ The attacker abused EIP-7702 delegation and pushed 50 signed authorizations until one matched the wallet’s nonce ▪️ Drained wallets: Binance 14, Binance 16 and Hot Wallet 34 ▪️ Gas was funded via Tornado Cash ▪️ Funds were split across 20+ fresh wallets and dumped on DEXs for ETH ▪️ 60M USDT was deposited on Aave to borrow 19,762 WETH ▪️ ZachXBT and Blockaid say North Korea (Lazarus) is the likely attacker BINANCE OFFICIAL UPDATE: ✅ “User funds are completely safe” ✅ All losses covered by the SAFU fund plus company funds ✅ Deposits and withdrawals paused, and Binance Alpha trading suspended ✅ The affected address authorization has been revoked ✅ Working with law enforcement and blockchain intel firms ✅ Withdrawals will resume “as soon as the security issue is fully resolved” WHAT THE BIG NAMES SAID: 🔶 CZ: “User funds are safe! CRYPTOPATEL TAKE: This is a real hack, not FUD. About $3B is already frozen, and freezes are growing faster than the losses. The remaining hole of about $3.3B is painful but manageable against Binance’s roughly $144B in reserves and its SAFU fund. Nearly 85% of liquidations were longs. Overleveraged bulls got flushed, and that kind of reset often clears the way for a bounce once confidence returns. Bybit lost $1.5B in 2025 and recovered within days. The key trigger now is a withdrawal restart and a full post-mortem. We all 100% trust CZ and the Binance team. They will find the best solution to recover any user losses.

BINANCE SECURITY SCARE: TETHER FREEZES $1.56 BILLION Crypto markets faced heavy selling pressure on October 29 following reports of suspicious transactions involving Binance-linked wallets. 🔹 Binance acknowledged a potential security incident. 🔹 Tether froze over $1.567 billion in USDT linked to suspicious activity. 🔹 Circle also froze over $800 million in USDC. 🔹 Suspicious wallet transfers reportedly approached $5.8 billion. Market Impact: Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB and altcoins faced selling pressure amid rising security concerns and panic liquidations. Important: $5.8 billion is not a confirmed loss. There is no verified evidence of Tether insolvency or a USDT collapse. This is primarily an exchange security and market-confidence issue. Expect volatility until Binance provides further clarity.
