Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنه reported that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said, “The believing men and women continue to be under trial in their lives, their children, and their wealth, until they meet Allāh without any sin.” [At-Tirmidhī] I ask Allāh سبحانه وتعالى to never test you in your children, but if He does: I ask Him to grant you submission to His Knowledge like Nūh عليه السلام, who said, “And indeed, Your promise is true; and You are the most just of judges!” while his heart was still confused at the loss of his son. I ask Him to grant you the determination of Ibrāhīm عليه السلام, who submitted his son to the command of His Lord with patience, never wavering in his intent of obedience — who continued to ride away from his infant and wife in the desert, never doubting His Lord’s care for them. I ask Him to grant you the Tawakkul of Hajar عليها السلام, who, upon coming to know that her abandonment with her baby in the desert was commanded by Allāh, firmly stated, “Then He will not forsake us.” She who didn’t doubt that Allāh would provide sustenance, and persevered in searching for the means from which her Lord would feed them in the barren desert mountains! I ask Him to grant you the perspective of Ayyūb عليه السلام, who suffered the loss of nearly everything dear to him, including his children, yet his supplication was only “Indeed, adversity has touched me, and you are the Most Merciful of the merciful.” He who saw his affliction as minuscule in comparison to the ease he enjoyed for many years before it, so he preferred silent patience! I ask Him to grant you the patience of Ya’qūb, who despite having no signs of his son’s returning, said in full belief, “I know from Allāh what you do not know.” He whose hope knew no bounds even in in his grief, as he mused, “Perhaps Allāh will bring them to me all together. Indeed, it is He who is the Knowing, the Wise." I ask Him to grant you the strength of heart that he bestowed upon Umm Mūsā, at a moment when she almost cracked under the pressure of seperation, about whom Allāh said, “She was very near to disclose his (case, i.e. the child is her son), had We not strengthened her heart (with Faith), so that she might remain as one of the believers.” And I ask Him to grant you a tongue like that of our Beloved Messenger ﷺ, which prioritized the pleasure of Allāh, even while processing heart-wrenching grief. “Verily, the eyes shed tears and the heart is grieved, yet we will not say anything but that which is pleasing to our Lord. We are saddened by your departure, O Ibrāhīm.” Know that you suffer in the same realm that the Prophets عليهم الصلاة والسلام suffered. So keep between your eyes the advice of the Messenger ﷺ, when he said, "To Allāh belongs what He takes and what He gives, and everything has a limited period (in this world). So ask her [his daughter whose child was taking his last breaths] to endure patiently, and expect the reward of Allāh.” Every personal trial becomes insignificant upon seeing the affliction levied upon the apples of your eyes. May Allāh protect the children of the Muwahhidīn, and preserve their Īmān and their health, and lift from them every form of suffering.

قَالَ إِنَّمَآ أَشْكُوا۟ بَثِّى وَحُزْنِىٓ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ وَأَعْلَمُ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ “He said, ‘I only complain of my suffering and my grief to Allāh, and I know from Allāh that which you do not know.’” Observe. After a clear expression and acknowledgment of his deep suffering and pain, Ya’qūb عليه الصلاة والسلام immediately concluded with a statement affirming his trust and blind hope in Allāh تعالى’s deliverance from it. Ibn Kathīr رحمه الله explains the last part of the statement as meaning, “I anticipate from Allāh each and every type of goodness.' The trials do indeed tear up the heart piece by piece, but the Prophets never let them effect their good assumptions and hope in Allāh. In the words of our Habīb ﷺ, إِنَّ الْعَيْنَ تَدْمَعُ، وَالْقَلْبَ يَحْزَنُ، وَلاَ نَقُولُ إِلاَّ مَا يَرْضَى رَبُّنَا “The eyes are shedding tears and the heart is grieved, and we will not say except what pleases our Lord.” اللّهُمَّ لا سَهْلَ إلا ما جَعَلْتَهُ سَهْلا وَأنتَ تَجْعَلُ الحَزْنَ إذا شِئْتَ سَهْلا O Allāh, there is no ease except what You make easy, and if You will, You make sorrow easy.
