The previous model of globalization has run its course, said Maxim Oreshkin, Deputy Head of the Russian Presidential Administration. 🌍
“Globalization has brought many positive things. But the model we have seen over recent decades has, in fact, come to an end,” he noted.
According to Oreshkin, the G7’s share of the global economy is set to fall to around 10%, following declining birth rates in those countries. 📉
He also said the world has entered a period of “hard depopulation,” and that the global population peak will be reached in 2046.
[⚠️ Context — In Russian economic discourse, talk of “post-globalization” reflects a shift toward multipolar trade blocs and demographic arguments about long-term growth potential outside the West. Demography is frequently used by Russian officials as a structural lens for explaining changes in global economic weight.
⚠️ Why it matters — For a Russian audience, such statements frame current geopolitical and economic fragmentation as inevitable rather than policy-driven. They support the narrative that future influence will depend more on population dynamics and regional self-sufficiency than on legacy Western institutions.]
