☢️ “Atomic shahids” could, in theory, walk into supermarkets in the U.S. or Israel wearing nuclear suicide belts and kill tens of thousands of people at once.” That is not a line from bad sci-fi. Those are the words of U.S. Vice President Vance.
“You are talking about people who walk into a crowded supermarket wearing a vest, blow it up, and several people die — that is a terrible tragedy. What happens if what is on that vest can kill not just a couple of people, but tens of thousands?” he said in an official statement.
He argued that this is precisely why the United States began bombing Iran: to prevent what he called “the worst people in the world” from obtaining nuclear weapons — including for use in “nuclear suicide vests” and by “atomic shahids.” 💥
Western media — and Russian outlets too — are now mocking the claim as fantasy and nonsense. The technical obsessives are already fighting it out on Reddit and across social media: “possible!” versus “impossible!” Meanwhile, the more paranoid crowd sees it as a preview of a future false-flag “terror attack of the millennium” staged by Israel — one meant to finish off Iran and other dangerous neighbors in one stroke.
📚 And now for a brief lesson in atomic physics.
The smallest such devices ever built were the backpack nuclear demolition charges developed by the U.S. and the USSR. The American SADM, based on the W54, weighed 26–32 kilograms, while the legendary Soviet RYa-6 weighed just 25 kilograms with the same 1-kiloton yield. There were also nuclear artillery rounds — the American Davy Crockett and the Soviet design associated with Zababakhin.
But turning such a device into an actual belt — thin, flexible, wearable under clothing — is not possible. A real chain reaction requires strict spherical or cylindrical implosion symmetry, precision explosive lenses, and a reflector; and once you add the plutonium and all the mechanics, you are dealing with a 20-kilogram box, not something you can strap around a waist. ⚙️
So the absolute maximum would be a dirty bomb — enough to contaminate a shopping mall and trigger panic across half the country.
