The Union Cabinet approved a bill to increase the number of judges in the Supreme Court.

✏️Union Cabinet approved the proposal for introducing 'The Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill, 2026'.
✏️The Bill provides for increasing the number of Judges of the Supreme Court by 04 i.e. from 33 to 37 (excluding the Chief Justice of India).
✏️Including the Chief Justice of India, the total sanctioned strength would increase from 34 to 38 once this bill is passed by the both houses of Parliament.
✏️The last time the Supreme Court of India's sanctioned judge strength was increased was in 2019.

केंद्र सरकार के मंत्रिमंडल ने सर्वोच्च न्यायालय में न्यायाधीशों की संख्या बढ़ाने के लिए एक विधेयक को मंजूरी दी है।

✏️मंत्रिमंडल ने ‘सुप्रीम कोर्ट (न्यायाधीशों की संख्या) संशोधन विधेयक, 2026’ पेश करने के प्रस्ताव को स्वीकृति दी।
✏️इस विधेयक के तहत सर्वोच्च न्यायालय के न्यायाधीशों की संख्या में 4 की वृद्धि की जाएगी, यानी यह संख्या 33 से बढ़कर 37 (भारत के मुख्य न्यायाधीश को छोड़कर) हो जाएगी।
✏️मुख्य न्यायाधीश को शामिल करने पर, दोनों सदनों द्वारा विधेयक पारित होने के बाद कुल स्वीकृत संख्या 34 से बढ़कर 38 हो जाएगी।
✏️सर्वोच्च न्यायालय में न्यायाधीशों की संख्या में अंतिम बार वृद्धि वर्ष 2019 में की गई थी।
