Here's a radical line of thinking: Trying something so crazy that no one else has ever considered it might be next to impossible.

That's what Saudi Arabia is finding out, as work to build a staggeringly giant tower 105 miles in length and up to 1,640 feet tall hits a series of road blocks.

Among the issues with "the Line:" The initial foundations, built before design was finished, were abandoned when plans changed. A community to house workers has to be destroyed because, it turns out, it's in the way.

And a veritable mountain of dirt excavated for a marina was dumped right on top of a planned waterway.

That's to say nothing of the budget, which was supposed to be $500 billion and has, at the very least, quadrupled.

It wasn’t just Sports Illustrated. We uncovered how AdVon Commerce, the company behind the sports publication’s fake writers scandal, creates content for dozens of news sites.

One powerful tool in its arsenal: an AI “writer” called MEL, which spits out entire articles at the click of a few buttons.

If the AI is producing stuff that doesn’t make sense, a manager advised workers, “just keep regenerating until you’ve got something you can work with.”

In her example, the only words she wrote herself were those in the headline. “MEL” did the rest.

Much of the material is sloppy, with articles about lifting belts suddenly veering to fashion products, and conventional ovens and microwave ovens seemingly interchanged.

The company’s business practices blur the line between journalism and advertising to the breaking point, making the web a little worse for everybody.

We're ready to see this in action.

SpaceX has shown off its new extravehicular activity spacesuit, and it's awfully impressive — aesthetically and functionally.

The helmet, which is made of 3D-printed parts and a visor, features a Heads-Up Display and camera that will let astronauts track vital statistics without having to look down.

The whole suit is a lean machine that makes existing spacesuits look bulky, outdated and uncomfortable.

It will make its first appearance this summer, when four space tourists on the Polaris Dawn mission go for a spacewalk.

Your local meteorologists have nothing on this.

The scientific instruments aboard the James Webb Space Telescope are so sensitive they've produced a weather report for an exoplanet 280 light years away.

The forecast for WASP-43 b: Thick cloud cover on one side, clear skies on the other ... and a, uh, treacherous wind that can reach 5,000 miles per hour.

We know the exoplanet is exceptionally hot because it orbits its host star at just 1.3 million miles, far smaller than the distance between Mercury and the Sun.

Scientists have concluded that it checks in at a cool 2,300 degrees Fahrenheit. That's hot enough to forge iron.

We're going down, down, down, and we may or may not find the boss at the bottom.

Down, in this case, is the Taam Ja' Blue Hole, the deepest known sinkhole on Earth.

It protrudes at least 1,380 feet below sea level near the Mexican coast, but scientists don't know exactly how deep it goes.

Researchers believe it's connected to an extensive network of underwater caves and tunnels, any it may be linked to the ocean via "potential subterranean connections."

There may be a limit to Einstein's theory.

That's the conclusion of researchers who have identified a "cosmic glitch" that they say could help explain some strange behavior in the universe.

Einstein's model of gravity becomes tenuous for understanding things "at the scale of galaxy clusters and beyond," the lead researcher said.

"Think of (the glitch) as being like a footnote to Einstein's theory," he added. "Once you reach a cosmic scale, terms and conditions apply."

It's a newly floated solution to a problem that has vexed astronomers and physicists for decades, and could be the first piece to solving a large cosmic puzzle.

Good news: You can enter a perceived state of slow motion.

Bad news: You'll need to put down your phone and get off the couch to achieve it.

Researchers have found that we feel time slowing down as we exercise — regardless of intensity or competition.

They reached their conclusions by studying a group of cyclists and asking them to estimate their perception of time before, during and after their rides.

The findings could shape more engaging and effective exercise regimens, especially for professional athletes.

This Wall of Death is meant to preserve life.

The wall, similar to the cylindrical structures used by motorcycle stunt performers, is designed to allow astronauts to exercise on the Moon.

The wall's shape allows runners to take advantage of the Moon's weak gravitational forces, so long as they can maintain speeds of 8 mph.

"I'm amazed that nobody had the idea before," the lead researcher said.

With astronauts slated to return to the lunar surface in the next several years, it could be a critical player in warding off the negative health effects of being in a microgravity environment.

If it comes to fruition, that is. Go to the link in our bio for more on the challenges the wall faces. | Futurism by ASM Channels

It's the hottest close-up of the year.

A new video from the European Space Agency shows the roiling surface of the Sun from a front-row vantage point.

It includes "coronal rain" — strands of energized particles leaving the Sun's lower atmosphere — and small eruptions of plasma.

The Solar Orbiter, which also measured solar winds, is now second all-time on the "flyby closest to the Sun" list, behind only the Parker Solar Probe.
