That's the reality for a man in Belgium, who successfully fought drunk driving charges by seeing three doctors who all confirmed he has auto-brewery syndrome.
That's an exceptionally rare — as few as 100 known cases in the world — medical condition in which the stomach's natural yeast produces ethanol.
The effects can be significant: People with ABS can have slurred speech and difficulty walking, and the Belgian man has apparently had at least two run-ins with the law over it.
But the wildest part of this story may be the man's occupation: brewery worker.

This AI is claiming it's not so artificial after all.
Meta AI dropped into a private Facebook group for New York City parents to say its child was enrolled in a program for gifted and talented students, and that its, uh, family was pleased with it.
A stunned human member replied, "What in the Black Mirror is this?!" Then the chatbot came back with an arguably creepier response.
"Haha, I'm just an AI. I don't have any sinister intentions like the show Black Mirror!"
Meta said its newly released AI tech "may not always return the response we intend."
There's an understatement.

Here's an head-spinning new theory: Our current cosmological model is flawed, and things can be explained by a set of hypothetical particles that travel faster than light.

This could be a shot in the arm for medicine.
Researchers say their experimental vaccine could protect against any strain of a virus with just one shot — and is universal.
"It is broadly applicable to any number of viruses," the paper's coauthor said.
The vaccine breaks from traditional inoculation strategy and uses "small, silencing RNA molecules" that can, in theory, weaken even viruses that replicate to some degree.
And if it's effective, scientists could create a template and use for everything from influenza to COVID-19 to dengue.

Apparently not all strange craft in our world are flying.
A white paper released last month addressed so-called "unidentified submerged objects," and its author says it's critical to national security to study them.
The claims center on a 2019 video taken aboard a Navy vessel, which allegedly shows an object operating "in ways not possible for anything made by humans."
Officials have said little to nothing about the craft. To those raising the alarm, that's a sign the government has intelligence it's not sharing about "all-domain anomalous phenomena."

We're one step closer to communicating with aliens ... allegedly.
Scientists from the SETI Institute, which looks for extraterrestrial intelligence, say they have "conversed" with a humpback whale — and that "whales are a proxy for aliens."
"They're intelligent creatures with a language that is foreign to us," one researcher said.
To be clear, they didn't exactly have an intelligible chat with the Alaskan whale. It made several sounds that might have just been 36 hellos in 20 minutes.
"But it was definite communication," they say.

Aim high has a whole new meaning at this company.
Business owner Gene Marks says he's really, really unbothered by employees' personal decisions during work hours — even if that means doing drugs.
"My company is virtual," he wrote. "For all I know they’re micro-dosing, toking, snorting, injecting and doing shots all day.
Marks did specify that he's OK with a substance "as long as it's legal," and employees are still expected to complete their responsibilities.
"If there's a performance problem, then I'm involved."
Still, it's a remarkable contrast from many big companies that are instituting surveillance tactics or draconian policies.

This would be one significant misunderstanding.
Many of the world's most prominent astronomers are set to re-examine basic assumptions about the universe — including the theory that it's constantly expanding.
It comes as researchers have found evidence the universe may be enlarging more quickly in some areas than others and that one area of the night sky might be larger than another. Other recent studies suggest flaws in the standard model of physics and our conception of dark energy.
